We will discuss methods of clearing your arteries of plaque. The biggest risk factors for heart disease is trans-fatty acids (partially hydrogenated vegetable oil), smoking, and sugar. Trans-fatty acids are responsible for the numerous studies that tried to prove that cholesterol causes heart disease. Come to our class to find out more...

There’s a growing concern that mammograms are not as safe as initially thought, and that the radiation can actually contribute to breast cancer.
RADIATION
- “It’s one of the most prominent risk factors and it’s effects are cumulative”1
- “This means the damage done to the breast tissue doesn’t disappear with time: Each dose of radiation adds to the last one”1
- Mammograms are a significant source of radiation.
How much radiation from a mammogram?2
- One week at high altitude (Denver) = less than 1 millirad
- Jet flight of 6 hours = 5 millirads
- Chest x-ray = 16 millirads (about 1 millirad reaches breast tissue)
- Smallest possible dose from a screening mammogram done with the best possible equipment = 340 millirads

So what can you do instead of a mammogram? Studies have found that the self-exam is as effective as mammograms at saving lives. Many women complain that they have lumpy breast tissue (fibrocystic) and can’t distinguish what is cancer and what is not. We have a 100% effectiveness at resolving fibrocystic breasts. Ask us about Iodine. There also is a technique called thermography that takes a thermal picture, but unfortunately almost no one is qualified to do that in Texas.
A very definitive blood test is available to test for all types of cancer. It is called the AMAS test (Anti-Malignant Antibody in Serum). This is a blood test that will tell you whether or not you have cancer in your body. It will not say where, but you do get a yes/no answer. Then you can either quit worrying or begin a thorough search only when necessary. Ask us about the AMAS test.
I am 65 and I have been going to Merritt Acupuncture for a little over three months. At my first visit I was wearing a heart monitor, with leads and wires and recording devices all over the place. I remember feeling so weak that I had trouble getting up on the table. My symptoms were shortness of breath, fatigue, constant pain in the chest and heart palpitations.
With the combination of acupuncture and nutritional supplements that Marlene has given me my energy and general well being have increased enormously. The heart pain is virtually gone. The shortness of breath is very much improved, and now just shows up when I'm working a horse for more than 15 minutes.
For most of the last three months I also went through an expensive series of tests for heart trouble. Nothing showed up except shortness of breath on exercise and higher blood pressure than I'd had in the past, which of course was wonderful for me if not for my insurance company. On the other hand, nothing was done in the Allopathic sphere of medicine to alleviate the symptoms that provoked the need to have the tests in the first place.
This causes me to think that it was the treatment given to me at Merritt Acupuncture that has made me feel so much better. Whether it was the needles, the nutrition, the counseling (I've managed to quit drinking coffee too!) or the nurturing, I'm sending everybody I know who doesn't feel well to Marlene for treatment.
