What About Insurance?
Insurance companies, more and more often, are covering acupuncture treatments. When people ask us if we take insurance, it’s not usually whether we “take” insurance but rather if the insurance companies “take” us! We DO file insurance for patients whose plans have acupuncture benefits, and we are more than happy to check on that for you. If you would like for us to see if you are covered, please call our office and have your group and ID numbers handy so our office manager can take your information right over the phone. We will find out within 24-48 hours and will let you know if you do. If you do have coverage and are already a patient of ours, some insurance companies allow back- filing, which we can do for you also.
There can be different ways that someone has benefits:
Complete or partial coverage by an insurance company
Complete or partial coverage with a doctor’s referral
A Benefits plan - not actually covered by insurance, but rather the provider gives a discount, by being on the insurer’s network. While we are not always part of a particular plan, we will match the discount of your current benefit plan.
Another great option is a Flexible Medical Spending Account. This account allows you to deposit part of your paycheck before taxes, and apply it to basically any health expense you might have, from a root canal to something like acupuncture. This sort of plan allows you to treat your health proactively and preventatively, and has become more and more popular over the past few years.
A Medical Savings Account is a new tool to allow you to have more say in your health and less restriction by insurance companies. You can deposit pre-tax money into this account until you are 65, just like a retirement account. However, you can spend the money without penalty on health expenses, from a deductible to preventative medicine like acupuncture. Many people save money on health insurance by pairing a high deductible/low premium plan with a medical savings account. Instead of paying money for insurance and paying more money to prevent illness (which saves the insurance company money), you can pay less insurance and take better care of yourself.
